USTRC Arizona Results

I won $300 in Arizona this past weekend.  I was hoping for a stronger showing but we drew some bad steers and one of my horses could have worked better.  I’ll put in some extra time in the practice pen this week prior to leaving to compete in Paso Robles this coming weekend.

Two Big Ropings coming up

This coming weekend I will be competing at the USTRC roping in Bullhead City Arizona and the following weekend I will be in Paso Robles, California…..There’s a lot of money up for grabs at these ropings and I hope to win some of it.  Some of my regular partners will not be traveling to these ropings so I will be on the lookout for some talented ropers to enter with.

Blazing Fast times get the Money!

I was competing on March 8th in Riverside California and had a fast time of 5.3 seconds on our first steer, 6 flat on the second with a leg and 6.38 on our third steer for a combined time of 17.68 seconds on three steers plus the leg…It was good for third place and the fast time totaled almost $700 donated to cancer research.  Not a bad day.  I was pretty happy with the 5.3 secod run.  I think its the fastest time I have every recorded in competition. 

Appearance on The Roping Show

Tyler Magnus and his sister Leah heard about the campaign and invited me to appear on The Roping Show.  I drove 8 hours to Casa Grande Arizona, which is home to the W&W Roping Camp and Arena.  Alan and Robin Ward make the W&W a great place to rope, a good sized arena, trailer hook-ups, plenty of stalls and good cattle make this an outstanding facility.  Tyler ran the roping clinic while Leah filmed every run made.  I really liked Tyler’s approach to teaching and I believe that my roping will improve as a result of participating in the clinic.  The show will air in 4 to 6 weeks and I’ll post the date when I get confirmation.  Thank you Tyler and Leah, you really helped kick off this campaign.

$2,800.00 won at USTRC City of Industry Roping!

My horses and I competed for four days at the United States Team Roping Chapionships (USTRC) in the City of Industry California over the past weekend.  When the dust had settled it turned out that I had won six checks totaling $2,800.00.  This is my best ever start to a USTRC season and I’m hoping it will set the pace for the rest of the year.  I was able to spend some time fundrasing and many people at the roping said they would be sending in donations to the campaign.  Almost everyone I spoke with had a story to tell about a loved one who has or is suffering from cancer.  These conversations are a constant reminder of how important it is to fund cancer research and the eventual cure that is so badly needed.

I want to thank the many partners that roped with me this weekend and I hope that all of you will consider contributing part of the money we won together to the campaign.

  

United States Team Roping Championship Roping 2/7, 2/10

My first USTRC Roping of the year is this upcoming weekend.  This four day event will draw over 1,000 teams to the City of Industry Equestrian Center.  This equestrian center was built for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic games and its a first rate facility.  This will be the only USTRC Roping held in Southern California each year so it will be nice to start the year off by competing close to home.  I will post the results next week so check back here to see how I did.

Fundraising Update

My brother stepped up with a big time donation and along with the other donations received during the first week of this campaign we have raised over $11,000!!!

Preperation for the upcoming season.

In an effort to tune me and my horses up for the big campaign, I am going to be taking a three day roping clinic with Walt Woodard.  Walt is the 2007 champion roper for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and he is one of the best roping instructors around.  The clinic is the week before the USTRC Roping in the City of Industry, CA and I’m hoping that Walt will be able to improve my ability to ride and rope. 

Next Roping February 7th through 10th, City of Industry, CA

My first USTRC (United Team Roping Championships) roping of the year takes place February 7th through 10th at the City of Industry.  This is the arena that was built for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games and is a really nice place to compete.  This is the only USTRC Roping held in Southern California each year so its nice to start the season out with a local roping.  I have some very experienced partners lined up for this event and hope to win some big $$$ for the campaign.

1/21/08 First Money won in 2008

Nothing to get excited about but I was able to win $58.00 on Saturday at the roping in Norco, CA.  My partner and I won the 2nd fastest time in the roping and each won $58.      I had a chance to win some bigger money in the final round of the average but I got out of posistion on a steer and threw a poor loop while trying to reach.  My poor judgement probably cost this campaign four to five hundred dollars.  I’ll try to rope smarter next time.
