This photo says it all!!!

We have reached our goal of funding a vital cancer study at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Thank you to all the generous people that helped get this research project underway by donating to this campaign.

We will keep the campaign running for a couple more months to see how much more cancer research we can fund through the Concern Foundation for Cancer Research.   Please keep your donations coming!

Happy Trails,

Steve Freed

Los Angeles Times to publish article on the Campaign!

Posted in Uncategorized on October 3, 2008 by beverlyhillscowboy

The Los Angeles Times is working on a story about me and the campaign and its scheduled to run the weekend of October 11th.  I’m hoping that the Times coverage results in a slew of donations to the campaign.

I was able to win a little over $1,000.00 last weekend at the California Shoot-Out Regional Finals and of course it will all be donated to the campaign.

Local Roping Results

Posted in Uncategorized on September 2, 2008 by beverlyhillscowboy

I have not been able to get away to any of the out of state big money ropings of late but I have been winning some money on the local front.  The Gibson Ranch in Sun Valley CA, hosted an open roping last week and I managed to win 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and add another almost $700 to the campaign.  I’ve been winning a little bit here and there and combined with the donations we have received from the public, we are getting close to reaching our $50,000 goal.

My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Any of you who receive the Roping Sports News or Superlooper magazine will have seen the fantastic article written by Jim Olson on the “Beverly Hills Cowboy”.  Jim did a great job telling my story and his article appeared in six different publications and helped drive some additional traffic to the website.  Jim is a fellow cowboy and real estate professional and I can’t thank him enough for giving this campaign some much needed exposure.

KNX News Radio Hero of the Week

I was interviewed by a reporter at KNX News Radio for their “Hero of the Week” segment.  Its an honor to be named “Hero of the Week” and the interview aired on the radio ten times over a four day period.  Hopefully it will drive additional traffic to the website and result in some new donors to the campaign.

World Series Qualifier Results

Posted in Uncategorized on May 21, 2008 by beverlyhillscowboy

Good News!  My partner and I managed to qualify for the World Series of Team Roping Finals that will be held in Las Vegas in December.  We managed to win second place at last weekends qualifier which paid us over $3,000 in prize money.  By placing at the qualifier we are now qualified to compete at the December finals for some of the two million dollars in prize money that will be awarded.

I’m excited about going back to the finals again this year, Las Vegas is one of favorite places to compete and you can’t find many roping’s that pay this kind of big money to the winners.

New Horse

Posted in Uncategorized on May 21, 2008 by beverlyhillscowboy

Well I finally managed to pick up a horse to replace my number two horse while his ligament injury heals up.  The new horse is a registered 10 year old paint from roping horse trainer Ray Siggins.  Ray sells some of the best roping horses you’ll see competing.  The paint horse is not championship caliber but he should be a good practice and back-up horse while my number two horse is out of commission.

CFO Magazine Article

CFO Magazine wrote an article about the Beverly Hills Cowboy in the May edition of their magazine.  The mangazine has over 600,000 readers so we might see a few donations as a result of the article.  Click on the link below to see the article (or copy and paste the address into your broswer).

I’m still looking for another horse to finish the season on.  I’ll be in Indio, California next week to ride a few horses and see if any of them are worth buying.   I’ve been roping at some of the local jackpot ropings the last couple of weeks and have managed to win a few hundred dollars.  With only one healthy horse, I can only enter each jackpot a few times.  I usually bring three horses to these ropings and having only one horse is really limiting the amout of times I can enter.

Horse Trouble

Posted in Uncategorized on April 9, 2008 by beverlyhillscowboy

I was out of town on vacation with my family for 10 days and when I got back one of my horses had banged his knee and is limping.  I normally have three horses that I can practice and compete on but I recently retired one and with one horse limping it looks like I have only one horse to compete on at the present time.

Having only one working horse is significantly limiting my ability to practice and enter up at the events.  Quality roping horses take years to train and are very hard to find.  Finding another horse that I can win on is not going to be easy or inexpensive.

The Roping Show

Posted in Uncategorized on April 9, 2008 by beverlyhillscowboy

My appearance on The Roping Show with Tyler Magnus and several other media article’s has increased traffic to the website.  I’m hoping that at least some of you visiting the website will donate to this very important children’s cancer research project…… I’l post a link to my appearance in the near future.

Many thanks to Tyler and his sister Leah for inviting me to make an appearance on The Roping Show.  I learned a lot from Tyler, if you ever get a chance to go to one of his roping clinics, grab it, the man can flat out teach roping.

I did not get anything done at the USTRC Paso Robles event, it broke my string of 7 consecutive ropings where I at least received some prize money.  I will be going to a lot of local ropings over the next few weeks and the next big event is the USTRC San Luis Obisbo roping at the end of May.
